Gnome Home Tutorial

Hi friends! I have a cute little tutorial to share with you today, made with new Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember® stamps. You can find another of my STAMPtember® posts here, my Hydrangea Art Journal page.

These stamps are so cute and I wanted to make a little wall hanger for Leo, with some bright colours and bits of glitter. His reaction when he got to hold it was a loud 'Look, Look' (one of his few words), so I think he likes it. To make this I used the new Secret Garden set, as well as the Abstract Triangles for the sky. The base is Dina Wakley's Media Board, from the mixed size set. It's a 5 x 7 panel.

After coating the base with gesso and letting it dry, I smeared Distress Grit-Paste at the base, making it look like hills. A palette knife works best for this. Let dry completely.

Emboss the Abstract Triangles with white embossing powder in the sky area. Don't worry about it being perfect.

Water-down Distress Paint and paint the sky. The embossing will resist the paint. Paint the hills with autumn shades.

Because of the rough grit paste, I decided to stamp my images on tissue paper, since it would be hard to get a good impression on the textured paste. These are most of the images on the Secret Garden set, although a few are missing.

Tear around the images instead of using scissors, since a torn edge disappears better. Use Gloss Multi-Medium and first add a layer on the background where you want to place an image. Carefully place the image down and brush a layer of multi-medium on top too. Do one image at a time. As you can see, the tissue shows a little bit on the grit areas, but it is easy to hide with more paint.

Start painting the images with Distress Paint and a small paint brush. Don't worry if some of the lines disappear, you can fix that later with a marker.

Add shadows with grey and black paint. I decided that I wanted some bling and used Stickles on the roof of the house, and as glitter sprinkled from the fairy. Her wings and the gnome's beard were coated with Glossy Accents and covered with Rock Candy Distress Glitter. Finally, I also added smoke from the chimney and some flowers with white Enamel Accents.

Isn't she sweet? I particularly like the little bird in her hand. There is Rock Candy glitter on her wings and on the star, it looks real nice in real life, but hard to photograph.

She is sprinkling some happy in the form of Stickles glitter.

A perfect sentiment for this canvas. As you can see here, the edges of the tissue paper aren't visible at all.

The little house looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale, and would look great on a card too. As you can see, there is glitter on the roof. The shadows added to the house, and to the other images, give dimension to the piece.

I hope  you can see the texture of the Grit-Paste better here. The paste works very good for grassy hills.

And here's the inhabitant of the house. This stamp set work work great for Christmas too, just turn the gnome into a Santa.

Two mushrooms in the corner and a little sign.

I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you for stopping by today!! Don't miss all the STAMPtember® products and inspiration. Still half a month to go.

Happy stamping!
